With the new year, and leaving a crazy 2020 behind, one thing was clear here in Vancouver – the explosion of people deciding to get back into cycling, and cycle around the city. Even more so, and ask any bike shop this – more and more people are asking about and buying electric bikes – the E-Bike has finally arrived in our mainstream.
What is an E-Bike?
You have probably seen them around, but in some cases may not have noticed the difference between an E-Bike and a regular bike. Those who ride traditional bikes sure know – when riders blow by on Vancouver hills effortlessly. Generally speaking, e-bikes are bicycles with a battery-powered “assist” that comes via pedaling and, in some cases, a throttle. When you push the pedals on a pedal-assist e-bike, a small motor engages and gives you a boost, so you can zip up hills and cruise over tough terrain without gassing yourself.
Also, and I know from experience, they are FUN!
But they can be an expensive first purchase. Most shops would say, at a minimum, a good E-Bike starts at around $3000.
Not sure if the purchase is for you? Solution: rent one to find out!
