I recently moved to Vancouver from Slovakia and I’m so happy to have the opportunity to work at Bee’s Knees. This is a beautiful city to live in, and now I get the chance to show it off. I came from a tourism background, so Bee’s Knees eBike Tours and Rentals is a perfect fit for me. I love people, I love to travel, and I love bikes! You cannot refuse an offer to try an electric bicycle. When I first met Tony and Melody, they talked about riding this eProdigy bike with great passion and enthusiasm. I didn’t understand what was so exciting at that time, but I would soon find out.
The slogan came next day when they asked me to “Bike the bridge with us!”
Full of expectations, I picked out a red ebike named Whistler. What typical Canadian, I think. I haven’t been on a bike for almost a year, so I was a bit nervous. I didn’t know how far we are going, I hoped not far. I pay attention and listen carefully on how to use the electric bike. Ride like a normal bike but with added assist levels and a throttle for extra boost! In my mind resonates Tony’s last sentence: “It’s really easy and fun to ride these bikes, you’ll see.”
The first pedals were uncertain. I didn’t know what to expect, but soon, as I’m riding and following Melody, we get to the first hill. My eyes grew wider, my grip went tighter, and I might have even been shaking my head but as the motor kicks in, I couldn’t help but smile. I want to scream “I LOVE THIS BIKE!” I suddenly feel the acceleration and the fun begins. Very addictive fun. I see that I’m using assist level 3. I look forward to discovering what happens when I use 5. Whooooaaaa, these ebikes go fast! Separated from car traffic, we have our own bike lane. We cycle safely along through city’s business district towards Canada Place. We use hand bike signals to turn towards the waterfront, and wow, we reveal a stunning view of the North Shore mountains in front of us. Along the Seawall we continue towards Stanley Park. I try out all numbers of assistance and even the throttle. I’m enjoying an easy ride, and I use my bell when I pass people safely on the left.
Huge totem poles by the shore is our first stop in Stanley Park. We take some group photos and continue. Around the Brockton Point Lighthouse, we climbed the road leading to the bridge. All the way is uphill. I’m excited! I’m setting the lowest gear like on a regular bike, I’m using assist level 4 or 5, and using throttle. I have my feet on the pedals, but I don’t really pedal because I am enjoying the view. The bike creates the feeling that we are on a flat road, even when we go uphill.
The bridge is newly renovated with safe bike passage, cycling lane is again separated from vehicle traffic along the Stanley Park Causeway. The view I get from the bridge is unforgettable! The city looks different from this viewpoint, you really get the Grand view of the city. From the bridge we head to West Vancouver district. Beautiful green environment with lots of flowers and azure ocean beside us. An amazing view of the Lions Gate Bridge is opening in front of us. The most beautiful photos I’ve taken in Vancouver! I stand in the right place, definitely.
The way back around the large Stanley Park’s trees offers a pleasant shade during the hot summer. We go directly to Vancouver’s most visited beach, English Bay. The green park, soft sand and the beaming sun reflecting on the ocean. I was hoping that there will be a big hill on the way back. And guess what? The hill is right in front of us, Yippee!! Touring on an ebike is easy, beautiful, and just the Bee’s Knees! Come and let me show you!
